Singapore Airlines runs contest that lets people try new Suites seats. In a mall.

You can already see how this ends.

With Singapore Airlines (SQ)'s all-new revamped Suites, earlier this week (on May 2), the company put out a contest on Facebook to give away 20 pairs of invites to try out their new Suites and Business Class products.

Contest to try seats during mall roadshow

The catch, however, isn't the fact that the contest is only open for KrisFlyer members.

It's the fact that winners of this contest won't get to fly anywhere — or even step onto a plane.

The prize: the Suites experience — in SQ's roadshow at ION Orchard.

Here's their post:

Some thought they were Suites flight tickets

Naturally, some Singaporeans misinterpreted the Facebook post and joined it anyway.

But SQ was quick to inform one participant about what the prize actually is:

To this, she replied that she will pass on the opportunity and give it to her nephew instead since he is an "enthusiast":

Another Facebook user deleted her entry after finding out what the contest is really about through KinMun Theodore Lee (a.k.a. blogfather mrbrown)'s Facebook post:

Refusing to join contest

Now, instead of enthusiastic entries for the "invites", the post is filled with angry complaints and refusals to join the competition:

One BK Tan even shared that the following phrase used by SQ led many to believe that they could potentially win a flight:

"...a chance to skip the queue and experience the seats!"

However, SQ replied to Tan's comment, saying that the post they put up was "succinct", which to be fair, was true.

Understanding SQ customers

Not everyone, however, felt as if they were misled by the Facebook contest.

In response to a bunch of commenters who exploited the opportunity to complain about a lack of rewards or upgrades in seats from their loyalty to the airline, one Facebook user praised the SQ team and told them to ignore the "salty old men".

While another user commended whoever was in charge of replying the numerous comments on their post.

Oh well, for those who desperately want to try the seats on the Suites and Business Class (in a mall, no less), you probably stand a higher chance of winning it now.
