Good news for unsentimental Singaporean men who can't wait to get rid of their SAF uniforms and equipment after completing their reservist training commitments.
There are now more places where you can dump dispose of these items and declutter your life.
New locations
According to Chinese newspaper Lianhe Zaobao, MINDEF will be setting up two more collection points for used uniforms and equipment "at the beginning of this year" to enhance efforts to facilitate proper disposal of SAF items.
The new collection points with dedicated bins are:
- Khatib Camp entrance
- The Chevrons (The SAF Warrant Officers And Specialists Club)
In Nov. last year, MINDEF had set up 10 new collection points for military items disposal, including six SAFRA clubs and four camps near housing estates:
- SAFRA Clubs ( Jurong, Mount Faber, Punggol, Tampines, Toa Payoh and Yishun)
- SAF Camp entrances (Bedok, Kranji Camp III, Maju and Stagmont)
Before that, NS men could only dispose of their used SAF uniforms and equipment at SAF e-Marts around the island, and the Army Logistics Base at Old Choa Chu Kang Road.

No more smuggling of old SAF uniforms, hopefully
In Nov. 2016, the Indonesian navy seized a truckload of used camouflage uniforms with SAF, or Singapore Armed Forces, tags on them from suspected smugglers on Batam island.
Senior Minister of State for Defence Maliki Osman had said in parliament in Mar. last year that the SAF had reminded their contractors to ensure that all uniform disposals were done in accordance to the established procedure.
He also added that more uniform disposal bins will be put up at SAF eMarts and more uniform collection points will be established at the entrances of selected SAF camps near populated areas to reinforce the used uniform collection system, and reduce opportunities for unauthorised vendors to obtain and sell used SAF uniforms.
Hopefully, with more places to dump your military stuff, less of them will end up in the wrong hands.
