Reddit user StrokeOfLife - or Yong Jie in real life - is a young man in his early twenties. A couple of years ago, he had a stroke, which left his left side a little weak.

But despite this physical disadvantage, he stepped in to help a fellow commuter when she was harassed by a middle-aged man.

Too distraught to answer

The incident occurred on Jan 9, around 6.45pm on Bus 98 - a Tower Transit bus that loops around Jurong. 

When a lady boarded the bus, a 50 - 60 plus year old man who stood next to her started asking for the block and level she lived in, and if she would like to go out with him on the weekends.

When Yong Jie realised something was amiss, he tried gesturing to ask if she was ok.

The lady, however, appeared too distraught to reply.

Followed by harasser

When she finally shook her head in negative, Yong Jie gestured to her to alight at the next stop.

Unfortunately, the man followed them and alighted as well.

He even kept telling his victim that she had alighted at the wrong stop, and continued to walk with her. At this point, Yong Jie admits that he was "shaking with fear" and had no idea what to do next.

He tailgated the man (so to speak), as he thought the perpetrator's exposed back might make him feel vulnerable.

Thankfully, the harasser walked away and the lady managed to board another bus.

Yong Jie ends the post reminding the ladies that there will always be people around to help.

Admirably, he did not reveal his gender or his medical condition till the end of his story, effectively reinforcing his message of a supportive community rather than drawing attention to his brave deed.
