A video chronicling the traditional marriage ceremonies of a Singapore couple, Kelvin Lee and Fiqah Hairi, has been shared over 3,000 times on Facebook.
Ceremonies, because theirs is a cross-cultural marriage that is still an uncommon sight — especially with one spouse being Muslim — in Singapore.
In the close to 5-minute video, the bride and groom take turns to wear both traditional Chinese and Malay costumes, and honour their respective cultural and religious rituals together.
You can watch it here:
Emotional bits include the solemnisation ceremony (Nikah), where Hairi's father — also known as the Wali (translated as "guardian"), in his role — marries her off to her groom.
In order for the Nikah to take place, both parties getting married must be Muslim.
Lee accepts Hairi as his bride and states his Mahr — a gift from the groom to the bride that she cannot spend on him.
In this case, it is a set of jewellery.

Another touching moment was when the couple served tea to both sets of parents, a Chinese ceremony meant to display respect and gratitude to the elders.
And it gives us the fuzzies to see Lee dancing with his brothers at the reception.
