The new Funan mall is scheduled to reopen in the final quarter of 2019.
It will have a strong emphasis on experiential retail, which includes a wide range of sports-themed stores and activities, including indoor cycling lanes.
In case Singaporeans forget that Funan is a thing and before brick and mortar retail gets swallowed by online retail, the good news is that there will be a new underpass connecting the newly-completed shopping destination to its surrounding malls and the City Hall MRT station.
According to Chinese newspaper Lianhe Zaobao, the 130-metre long and 6-metre wide underground pedestrian tunnel is expected to be completed by 2020.
It will connect Funan's basement two to the existing underpass at Capitol Piazza, allowing shoppers to get to City Hall MRT station without having to get outdoors or cross the road. In addition, it will also connect to The Adelphi.
The report also said that connections to The Peninsula Plaza and St Andrew's Cathedral is also possible in the future.
