Gudetama served with his mum is dark Japanese humour. Available in Tokyo. For now.

When kawaii becomes kowai.

If you still somehow haven’t gotten off the bandwagon of spending money on ornamental but unnecessarily edible food, here’s more to satisfy your inner cravings for all things kawaii.

For possibly the first time ever, you can now not only see what Gudetama’s mum looks like, but also eat it.

Mum... (probably)

According to Rocketnews24, there's a new and intriguing item on the menu at the Gudetama-themed restaurant in Tokyo.

In a delicately arranged scene of mother and child separation, a saffron rice Gudetama in Stroganoff sauce is seen crying and snuggling up to a grilled chicken leg while saying “Mum… (probably).”

Since Gudetama is an egg, it does make sense for a chicken to be his mum. Though it is kind of disturbing to see Gudetama’s mum chopped up and reduced to a leg, we can’t deny it does look delicious.

You can have both the chicken and the egg for just 1,290 yen (S$15).

Less tragic dining options available

If eating Gudetama’s mum in front of him is too morbid for you, there are other items to choose from.

Here is the anthropomorphised egg doing his usual thing on top of a roast beef bowl.

But if biting down on Gudetama’s head is too much for you, you can always savour its nicely rounded posterior instead.

Unfortunately, these are only available at Tokyo's Gudetama café at Ikebukuro, where all things weird and fantastic can be found.

Meanwhile, fret not, as you can still check out the Gudetama Café right here in Suntec City Mall in Singapore.
