Quite a good origin story.

Yishun is a wonderful place. And like all wonderful places, it has an origin story.

Wading into the origin stories universe is Yishun Resident Evil, a madcap trailer featuring a Malay protagonist, put up on Facebook several weeks ago, before all eyes were trained on the Yistana at Yishun Ave 4.

"Y-Virus"

Exactly a month before President Halimah Yacob was announced as the sole candidate eligible to run in the 2017 Presidential Election, Yishun Resident Evil trailer came out on Aug. 11, 2017.

Basically, it is a play on the Resident Evil franchise featuring apocalyptic big pharma themes and the introduction of a virus that was left running amok, resulting in corporate interests taking over functions of the state and government.

In this case, it is because of a "Y-Virus" that turns people into murders, addicts and cat killers. Or killer cats.

Unfortunately, Yishun Resident Evil cannot be made into a full-length feature due to a lack of budget.

Yishun movie inspiration

This is not the first time Yishun has its own movie trailer.

In April 2017, a trailer showing the trials and tribulations of Yishun managed to challenge the fertile imaginations of Singaporeans as the appearance of Godzilla and a portal to hell became part of the Yishun story.

And then to really push the boundaries of what Singaporeans can get up to with their movie-making magic, there was the insanely well-done trailer Dear Papa, à la a Korean movie put out in July 2017.

Who said Singaporeans are not creative?
