Woman finds snake in Upper Thomson office toilet bowl, 2nd appearance in a week

Always look in before sitting down.

It's the year of the rooster, but snakes seem to be making a number of appearances in and around Singapore recently.

Facebook user Lim Sze Hui recently found a sizeable snake in the toilet bowl of her father's office, which is located in Upper Thomson.

According to a caption she added to the video, this is the second time a snake has come to visit via the loo. She did not say whether it is the same snake or a different one, though.

You can see the snake poking its head out of the toilet's trapway in the video below, which was uploaded on Sep. 20:

And for those of you wondering how the snake could have swum its way up to the toilet bowl, it's possible because the piping results in only a small pool of water collecting at its base —

So our slithery friend didn't have to hold its breath through water-filled pipes to get to where it was. That said, a responsive, submerged snake is still a relatively rare sight in Singapore.

And just in case you're curious to know how the snake ended up there, a snake's windpipe has an opening — called a glottis — which is always closed, unless the snake takes a breath. Different species of snakes can hold their breath underwater for different lengths of time, ranging from at least 30 seconds to 30 minutes.

We're just glad the person who shot the video spotted the unexpected visitor before sitting down.
