Butterfly pea — a kind of flower that adds a blue hue to the water when brewed — is commonly known for its use in drinks for its colour, and is also found cooked in rice in vegetarian cuisine in a few places.

But now, a local eatery has brought this concept to one of Singapore's favourite breakfast and supper food.

Jia Xiang Nasi Lemak cooks its rice with butterfly pea flower, giving it its natural blue colour. Besides looking pretty, it has also received praise for its unique and fragrant taste:

What's more, prices are more than reasonable at $2.50 (no chicken), $4 (with a chicken wing), or $4.50 (with a chicken drumstick) per set.

The complete set includes a sunny side up egg, fried chicken, achar (pickled vegetables), peanuts, anchovies, and sambal chilli.

They also have a variety of butterfly pea drinks, going for $2 each. There's Butterfly Pea with Honey Lime, Butterfly Pea with Soy Jelly, Butterfly Pea with Teh C, and more.

If you're not into the butterfly pea trend, they also have the conventional pandan rice sets, going for the same price.
