Singapore's last president Tony Tan ended his term on Thursday, August 31, and it's reasonably widely-acknowledged that his term was otherwise rather unremarkable compared to others.

Nonetheless, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong gave an 11-minute speech paying tribute to Tan's contributions to Singapore at his farewell ceremony at the Istana:

But putting his constructive work for the nation aside, it might surprise you that now-ex-President Tony Tan did leave us some unforgettable memories with his appearances on several occasions throughout his term.

So in tribute to him, here's a throwback to these moments we will remember as fondly as PM Lee said:

1. When he became Lee Kuan Yew in India:

So shock. Much flattered. How to article?

There wasn't much we could add, really.

2. His handshakes

What's more memorable than getting a handshake from the President? An almost handshake.

3. When he declared the day of the World Cup final between Germany and Argentina is not a public holiday in Singapore

We're sure he wanted it to be true as much as the rest of us.

4. When he had to thank his supporters amidst boos on Nomination Day in 2011:

Of course, he later said he was deeply disappointed by the jeering.

5. When he had to interview a boy who did not recognise him as the President:

6. His tearful Facebook sign-off ?:

7. With all due respect, we can't deny that we will always hold him close to our hearts for resembling one of our favourite food figures.

And last but not least,

8. His special cameo with the Noose's Jojo Joget (Suhaimi Yusof) for the 2015 President's Star Charity

Watch from 13.09:

So long, ex-President Tan, and thanks for all the fish.

Sincerely,
