Century Square in Tampines will close for one year to undergo a major makeover.

The oldest of three malls in Tampines central, it will be the first major renovation since it opened in 1995.

The refurbishment works will be completed in the second quarter of 2018. The last time the mall underwent a renovation, but on a smaller scale, was in 2008.

The 200,000 sq ft mall has 125 stores but ageing facilities and having offerings that pale in comparison to Tampines Mall and Tampines 1 nearby has caused footfall to dwindle.

Department store BHG, supermarket FairPrice Finest and electronics retailer Best Denki are anchor tenants.

FairPrice Finest will stay open until Aug. 9.

It is unclear if they would return after the renovation.
