It starts, as always, with a post on Facebook.
Customer Fawn Chia left a one-star rating on the page of Stickies Bar, a local establishment that combines food, alcoholic drinks and games, along with complaints of being rudely chased away before the stipulated closing time.
You'd expect an explanation to mitigate the complaint, or, at most, some form of defensiveness that might find itself wanting in terms of objectivity.
But nope. Stickies Bar went straight to the deep end:
In summary, here's what the establishment asserts:
- Because it closes at midnight, no customers are allowed to drink on the premises after that time.
- It is Stickies' protocol to clear alcoholic drinks "by" 12am, as a consequence.
It also threw in some personal attacks — Chia should check herself into a nearby pet clinic; their pet licence does not accommodate her special breed of "b*tch"; her brain should get a one-star rating to match her IQ.
Unfazed, Chia responded with a more detailed account of what happened:
In summary, she asserts that:
- Despite closing at midnight, the bar's servers started reminding them from 11:15 that they were closing at five-minute intervals.
- At 11:52pm, they were told by a "security guard" that they had to leave right away, without getting the chance to finish their drinks.
- She was not unpleasant to the staff.
Stickies's CEO, one Norman Then, subsequently responded to her using his personal Facebook account:
He alleges that Chia was rude to his staff, claiming that she knocked over an UNO Stacko tower before storming off.

This could've been the end, but it isn't
Shortly afterward, Stickies Bar created a new post on their own page to call out Chia specifically:
This birthed two different camps — those who criticised the bar's rude response, and those who think the customer is being unreasonable:
Then then jumped into the comment thread as well:
Who's in the wrong? You decide. But in the fray above, some references were made to the law, and so we thought we'd shed a bit more light on that for you.
Section 6(c) of the Liquor Control Act in Singapore's statutes explains the following:
Supply, etc., of liquor only during trading hours
6.—(1) A licensee must not do any of the following outside of the trading hours specified in the licensee’s liquor licence or applicable by an order under subsection (2):
(a) supply any liquor;
(b) keep open, or cause or permit to be kept open, the licensed premises in connection with paragraph (a);
(c) allow any liquor to be consumed within the licensed premises.
Whether this justifies Stickies' response to Chia, as well as their alleged behaviour to her and her friends, is another story, but there it is.

We bet, like, 80% of Singaporeans waste water like this
We love to say “sweet until got diabetes”, but that’s not actually true.
