More details have now surfaced about the couple who had allegedly bullied an old man in a confrontation that took place on Apr. 21 in a Toa Payoh Lorong 8 hawker centre.

It was reported last week that the couple, who have been been arrested and are currently out on police bail, are husband and wife. Both are also working in private education.

Yesterday (Apr. 30), Shin Min Daily News (SMDN) reported that the 46-year-old man is a director of a tuition centre, while the 39-year-old lady is a "premium mathematics" tuition teacher at the same centre. She has taught at the centre for 16 years.

Based on Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority's (ACRA) records, SMDN highlighted that the tuition centre was set up in 2011.

SMDN also reported that the man is also involved in two other businesses, with one of them also in the private education sector.

According to SMDN, the couple had met while on holiday some years ago. The man is from Malaysia, while the woman is Singaporean.

All is quiet on the couple's side

What is missing in this case at the moment is the couple's side of the story.

They have maintained silence since the incident occurred a little more than a week ago. It is perhaps understandable, given the strong sentiments against them and ongoing police investigations.

Nonetheless, it seems like they might have wasted an opportunity before they were arrested to tell their side of the story.

In comparison, the chicken rice boss who was caught on video insulting a taxi driver moved quickly enough to repent and make amends for his actions.

Right now, it seems that the couple's silence is fuelling netizens' angry sentiments.

Online reactions

The online mobs vigilantes have since dug up further information on the couple, with their names and photos being circulated, but we will not be putting up these details.

Perhaps these two comments by netizens sum up the sentiments of the online mob best at the moment:

With police investigations ongoing, the couple are unfortunately not likely to make any major public statements on the incident any time soon.

Meanwhile, if the couple, who were arrested for causing public nuisance, are found guilty of the offence, they are liable to a fine of up to $1,000.
