The Taiwanese milk tea, “Just Drink- Milk Tea” (纯萃喝), that has gotten people camping at 7-11 at 3:00 am in the morning for fresh stock is being recalled by the Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA).

Some people even buy out entire batches to resell them.

In a statement released on Facebook, AVA said that the popular tea contains the ingredient L-theanine which is not "on the list of permitted food additive under the Food Regulations of Singapore." AVA is working with the importer of “Just Drink- Milk Tea” (纯萃喝) to recall the product.

But before milk tea-loving Singaporeans go into a panic, AVA asked for people to be not alarmed as "L-theanine is an organic compound that is found in certain plants. There is no food safety risk associated with the recalled products."

AVA did advice consumers to consult a doctor for medical advice if they have any health concerns.

Here's AVA's full post:

From Wikipedia, "In Japan, L-theanine has been approved for use in all foods, including herb teas, soft drinks, desserts, etc. with some restrictions applying to infant foods.[5][6] It provides a unique brothy or savory (umami) flavor to green tea infusions. It is generally recognized as safe (GRAS) as an ingredient by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and is sold as a dietary supplement in the US. However, the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment, an agency of their Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture, has objected to the addition of isolated theanine to beverages."
