Workers' Party's Low & Lim hurt each other's wrist in arm wrestling match?

Looks like Sylvia Lim won.

Workers' Party's chief Low Thia Khiang and chairwoman Sylvia Lim were each spotted during their Sunday morning walkabout at Serangoon Gardens today with a cast each on their respective right wrists.

A WP spokesperson has, however, confirmed that neither of their injuries stemmed from any form of aggression between them -- because if it was, Lim clearly came out tops as she appeared less injured.

Instead, both of their injuries of a similar nature were due to sheer coincidence.

Low suffered a fall at home earlier this week and fractured his wrist, which then had to be put in a cast.

Lim, on the other hand (pun intended), aggravated an old injury and had to put on a wrist guard.

But the optics of both party leaders in a brace each serves as a timely reminder.

Low and Lim, aged 59 and 51 respectively, will most likely be looking towards leadership succession as the WP will be holding its next closely-watched biennial conference to elect its central executive council (CEC) soon.

In 2014, the last time CEC election was held, more than 20 members put themselves up for election and vied for 12 spots on the council. Only the top two positions of secretary-general and chairperson went uncontested.

The party's constitution allows for 14 spots on its CEC, unless there is a tie, such as in the 2012 conference, where 15 people were elected.

The CEC election takes place once every two years to pick and form the party's top decision-making body, although new faces can be co-opted into the party in between elections.

Some of those who were co-opted in 2013 and subsequently elected in 2014, include Non-Constituency Members of Parliament Dennis Tan and Daniel Goh.

In October 2015, three new faces were co-opted into the CEC after its monthly meeting.

They are Leon Perera, who was elected a NCMP a month before that after the General Election 2015 in September, Mohamed Fairoz Shariff and Kenneth Foo.
