The National Youth Survey queries youths, between the age of 15 and 34, on their aspirations, values, social participation and civic engagement. It is the fifth such survey since it started in 2002.

Although the values and attitudes of youths remain largely constant over the years, the most recent findings from 2016 saw home ownership coming out tops on the list of priorities.

The factor of home ownership was introduced in 2013, where it ranked second after strong family relationships.

Now, having strong family relationships has come in second.

Even at ages between 15 to 19, home ownership remains one of the top three life goals -- although still deemed less important than strong family relationships and successful careers.

Other interesting findings from 2016 include a dip in the the perceived necessity of marriage, with 31 percent agreeing that it is not necessary to marry, compared to 25 percent in 2013.

Youths are also more worried about their future and emerging adult responsibilities, with main concerns of 15 to 19-year-olds anticipating the need to be independent (financially or otherwise) and 20 to 29-year-olds transitioning to an unstructured environment and getting ready for marriage and home ownership.

However, well-being remains positive overall, with today's youths having a slightly higher life satisfaction and happiness than they did in 2013.

A representative sample of 3,531 youths across diverse backgrounds were surveyed.
