S'pore durian shop praised by influencers allegedly failed to deliver quality durians to a paying influencer

Even though she paid a lot.

Da Feng Shou (also known as Grand Harvest) is a durian retailer that also provides home delivery services for the fruit.

As part of their marketing plan, durians were sent to influencers. Reviews were highly positive, with many praising its quality and convenience:

It was so nice to return home to these babies 😍😍😍 I personally like the BBQ Mao Shan Wang durian because it is both bitter and sweet, so I do not get sick of eating it. Go for Red Prawn if you like your durians sweet! @dafengshou packed a generous mix of durians for me. I'll try a few everyday and let you know how I feel about the rest! Do you like durians? 👅

One customer, Yvonne Chua, spent between $100-$200 on an order of Mao Shan Wang (read: premium) durians (She is, however, rather influential herself, with more than 40,000 followers on Instagram and almost 3,000 followers on Facebook).

The durians Chua received, however, were poor in quality, she alleges, with watery and tasteless flesh, no texture, and large seeds.

"I go f my staff"

Disappointed, she got in touch with Da Feng Shou to provide her feedback. Instead of getting a refund (there was a money-back guarantee), she chose to try another batch, which they agreed to:

The exchange was cordial at first, and Chua said in her post that she was told the best Mao Shan Wang will only arrive in two weeks' time.

One month later, the retailer contacted Chua to inform her that the durians have arrived. Chua then arranged for a delivery a day or two later.

"Idiot supplier"

From then on, there were a number of failed deliveries, with Da Feng Shou citing poor quality and unfulfilled deliveries from their supplier.

Read the full exchange between both parties in the screenshots below:

As the deliveries were repeatedly unsuccessful, Chua eventually asked for a refund.

She thinks she has been blocked on WhatsApp, though, as the delivery status of her message displays a single grey tick (which signifies successful sending but non-delivery).

Unavailable, but continued advertising

Interestingly, though, on the same day Da Feng Shou told Chua the Mao Shan Wang durians were not available, they continued posting and advertising the Mao Shan Wang durians on their Facebook page:

Chua adds that she has also since been blocked from their Instagram account:

Chua told us that her refund from the company has not yet been processed.

Da Feng Shou responds

When asked about Chua's allegations, Da Feng Shou told Mothership they were advertising the variation of Mao Shan Wang durians that Chua was not satisfied with.

The representative for the firm, who would not provide his or her name in our email correspondence, did not respond to our questions of whether they had given Chua her refund, or whether they had indeed blocked her from their Instagram and WhatsApp accounts.

Here's their initial response to us, ad verbatim:

"She did receive her durians, didnt like the taste, so of course for replacement, its really on the availability of the durians, and was told to her the the durians she wanted will harvest according to weather, something we cant control.

When i didnt send to her the first replacement cos durians were no good, she insisted that i have to give her a solution and very rude in her replies.

We have given her what she paid for and even offered a refund when she didnt like the durians. She didn't want a refund and wanted a replacement, thus she had to wait. Durians are natural products and at the mercy of the weather, we cant make guaranteed promises on their quality yet we can promise a money back guarantee WHICH she rejected.

...

Let this be our explanation to you because we trust your expertise to see things logically and also from a dual perspective and I appreciate your kindness to seek a clearer picture.

On an ending note, we treat our business with utmost passion, so I do hope any points/ facts will be clearly presented online because we will seek legal advices and resort to legal actions if any proven wrong accusations are being made across on us on any social, media or traditional platforms."

In response to our follow-up queries, here's what the representative sent us:

"Kelatan msw was the type of breed she disliked.

Anyways i think i explained myself clearly on the whole scenario and no point for me to explain to a third party?

And the kelantan msw i am selling online was the breed she didnt want.

Anyways if i am in flaw of any consumer accusations, pls get chua to feel free to make a report against us. For all i know, she paid, we delivered, give her a refund she didnt want. Please refer to my previous replies and make do with it for your article."
