Here's a video of PM Lee at G20 dinner, but it's awkward

Happens when your country is small AF.

A video of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at the G20 Leaders' Summit has surfaced on a Chinese-medium Facebook public page of "2017 Bu Tu Bu Kuai" - a discussion group that generally adopts a critical tone on local issues and government matters.

The video featured G20 leaders and guests all seated around a long table socialising with one another and had also captured PM Lee in the footage.

Except he wasn't mingling with anyone.

Here's a breakdown of the video in gifs showing leaders of big states being granted a ready audience:

First, it showed President Xi Jinping in an engaging conversation.

Then we see PM Lee sitting at the table looking solemn and not in conversation with the leaders and guests beside him.

His expression was different from those seated beside him, who were either busy looking at what's going on, or were smiling and taking photos.

And then we finally make out a faint smile from him, after a leader sitting opposite him laughed.

More leaders in conversation, such as Canada's Justin Trudeau.

And the climax: PM Lee looks to his right, but the leader on the right started a conversation with another leader on his right instead.

More leaders in conversation again. This time, President Trump is in the limelight.

PM Lee then looks towards the stage.

And the video ends with a closer shot at PM Lee, still looking towards the stage, and perhaps still solemnly.

International diplomacy is not just a cocktail circuit, it can be tough for smaller countries to be seen and heard.

Getting into awkward situations at the G20 Leaders' Summit was par for the course for PM Lee, with the first incident being mistaken for Indonesian President Jokowi by President Trump on Instagram.

Awkward dinner conversations, or lack of, aside, PM Lee has mentioned in a PMO media interview report that he thought it was a "good meeting", and that Singapore has "got our point of view across" during the Summit.

PM Lee's work trip to the G20 Leaders' Summit (July 7 to 8) in Munich also saw him participate in the launch of the Siemens Digitalisation Hub, as well as take part in a National Day reception with hundreds of overseas Singaporeans and friends of Singapore, all occurring from July 6 to 11, 2017.
