A family of 10 otters made their presence felt recently at the Gardens By The Bay.

A video put up on July 7, by Patrick Ng, showed the otter family of 10 showing off their numerical prowess as they chased a black dog across an empty field:

The bevy of otters are believed to be the Bishan family, which have over the past year, vastly expanded their territory by pushing out another rival family to make their way to the Marina Barrage area downtown.

Here is a map showing how far the Bishan otters have come:

In April 2017, it was reported that the original Marina otter family had to move to the Singapore River as a result of the Bishan family muscling their way through to the south of Singapore following the waterway.

The situation came to a head in June 2017 after the father otter of the Marina family died.

The Bishan family were spotted by the otter-watching community here to have been swimming upstream to the Singapore River where the original Marina family was residing.

The otter watchers intervened by preventing both factions from clashing as they shooed away the Bishan otters.

A clash between both sides would have likely resulted in the fatherless Marina otter family being chased away again.

This is so as the Marina family consists of only one adult mother and 10 pups.

And this isn't the first time otters have encountered dogs in Singapore though.

Previously, a family of otters were caught on video approaching two dogs on leashes in a face-off that didn't last too long.
