How pro are you at Singlish? If you're born after 1995, many of these words would make you go 'har?'.
If you're born before 1995, you will also wonder why we've stopped using these Singlish words altogether:
1. Jude
The word has probably been replaced by 'chio', 'hot', or "I would swipe right".
2. Pinjam
We use 'Pinjam' the same way we use 'Borrow' and 'Lend' interchangeably -- i.e. Can pinjam me your pen / May I pinjam your pen?
3. Fiak
Nows-adays it is 'eff this, eff that'. Or we straight up drop the f-bomb like it is nbd.
4. Gei yan
With the number of dialect speakers going to paradise, dialects would one day slowly disappear in Singapore, along with it would be more obscure dialect terms that once featured in Singlish. 'Gei yan' being one of those that have been replaced by 'very interesting'.
5. Stun
Only "advanced" Singlish users know that "stun" is another word for "steal".
6. Orbit
Together with "Obiang" the Singlish words for unfashionable have gone out of fashion themselves. These days it is whether your make-up game is on fleek or strong.
7. Up lorry
The use of this word also up lorry already. #PassAway
8. Kelong
With the death of football fever in Singapore, there's hardly a chance for Singaporeans to shout "Referee Kelong!" or "Referee Kayu!".
