Former president S R Nathan has passed away peacefully this evening (Aug 22) at 9.48pm at Singapore General Hospital (SGH), said a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
Members of the public can pay their last respects at the Parliament House from 10.00am to 8.00pm on Thursday, 25 August.
The body of the late Mr Nathan will lie in state at Parliament House from 10.00am on Thursday, 25 August to 12.00pm on Friday, 26 August.
On Friday (26 August), members of the diplomatic corps and other officials would pay their last respects from 9.00am till 12.00pm.
A State Funeral Service will also take place from on Friday, 4.00 pm at the University Cultural Centre (NUS). It will be attended by Mr Nathan’s family, friends and former colleagues, the President, Cabinet Ministers, MPs, civil servants.
The service will be followed by a private cremation at Mandai Crematorium.
As a mark of respect to Mr Nathan, the State flag on all Government buildings will be flown at half-mast from Tuesday, 23 August to Friday, 26 August 2016.
State funerals and state-assisted funerals for former Presidents
The Government has previously provided assistance to the family of late Presidents with funeral arrangements.

Yusof bin Ishak (23 November 1970) - 1st President of Singapore
Benjamin Henry Sheares (12 May 1981) - 2nd President of Singapore
Wee Kim Wee (2 May 2005) - 4th President of Singapore
Ong Teng Cheong (11 February 2002) - 5th President of Singapore (State-assisted funeral)
