Singapore's silat women's artistic (regu) team has won a gold medal at the 32nd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.

Narrowly beat Bruneian opponents

The artistic team consists of Amirah Binte Sahrin, Iffah Batrisyia Binte Noh, both 21 years old, and 23-year-old Nur Ashikin Binte Zulkifli.

As part of the event, groups of three have to showcase a variety of silat moves in a three-minute routine.

They are then awarded points based on their combined synchronisation, execution of technique and energy.

The trio from Singapore put up an impressive performance in their final performance at the Chroy Changvar International Convention and Exhibition Center in Phnom Penh on May 7, 2023.

They narrowly beat their Bruneian opponents — Nur Wasiqah Rosihan, Norleyermah Haji Raya and Anisah Abdullah — by 0.030 points with a score of 9.955.

Singapore's first-ever women's artistic silat team gold

The team's performance clinched Singapore another gold medal, the first for the women's artistic silat team.

The trio walked away with a bronze medal in 2022 at the 31st SEA Games in Hanoi.

Earlier on May 7, Singapore's world champion Iqbal Abdul Rahman, walked away with a bronze medal.

The 30-year-old who won a gold medal at the 31st SEA Games was unable to defend his title in the artistic men's singles (tunggal) semi-final event.

His teammate, Siti Nazurah Binte Mohd Yusoff, 23, also went home with a bronze medal following her defeat to Indonesia’s Puspa Arum Sari during the women's artistic singles semi-final event.

This is Siti's first medal in the SEA Games.
