A stall at Circuit Road Hawker Centre selling handmade pies will be closing for good on Apr. 30, 2023.
DP Creations was opened in October 2018 by a couple, Daniel and Pell, and offers a variety of Australian-style minced beef pies, chicken pies, curry puffs, egg tarts, and old-school butter cakes.
"Razor-thin margin"
However, DP Creations announced in a Mar. 31 Facebook post that it will be closing for good at the end of April.
They shared in the post that prior to this, the stall had already switched to operate only from Fridays to Sundays due to low traffic on other weekdays.
Nevertheless, this was not enough for the business to sustain itself.
"But even then, we cannot breakeven (sic) because of the increase in stall rental and razor-thin margin. We could not survive on that."
This is in spite of their decision to raise prices in January.
DP Creations said that the decision to close the shop "has not been an easy one", but that "circumstances have made it necessary".
Although the couple is sad to say farewell, they believe that they "have made a meaningful contribution to [their] community".
In the meantime, they will be taking a break to decide "how DP Creations [is] going to move on".
They expressed their gratitude to their customers for the support thus far, but also mentioned the possibility of returning one day, or running a home-based business.
"To all our customers, we want to say a heartfelt thank you for your loyalty and support over the years. We will miss you, and we hope that the memories of our pies will stay with you for years to come."a
