Eight Riversuites, a condominium complex in Whampoa East, Bendemeer, has made news again.

It hit the headlines in 2019 when a man got into an altercation with a security guard after being made to pay S$10 for parking within the condo.

This time, several delivery riders have complained that delivering orders to the condo has been challenging.

Banned from parking in the condo

A delivery rider, Fang (transliteration), told Shin Min Daily News that the condominium's management bans riders from parking their bicycle and e-bikes within the complex.

He claimed they were forced to park illegally on the pedestrian walkway outside the premises, where they risk being fined.

Fang further alleged that even though the riders tried communicating with the condominium's management, they did not entertain them at all or give any form of explanation.

If you try to park improperly you get clamped with a S$107 release fee

Another rider, Zheng (transliteration), claimed that he had frequently sent delivery orders to the condo and the management used to allow them to park at a space beside the guard house — but they started to ban them from entering around three weeks ago.

Fang added that they were allowed to park their vehicle in the compound's car park two months ago.

He said there was an occasion when the car park was full, and he decided to park his vehicle "aside", where he claimed he was "not obstructing other vehicles".

When he returned after delivery, he saw a management staff trying to clamp his vehicle and immediately rushed to stop the person.

Fang also claimed that one of his friends, who ended up having the wheels of his bike clamped while making a delivery, had to pay S$107 to remove the lock.

"That is a day of earnings all gone," Fang said.

Risk being fined for parking outside

Fang cited another incident on Apr. 11 as emblematic of the issues riders face when they are forced to park outside.

At that time, enforcement officers were seen surrounding bicycles parked outside, according to videos shared by Fang.

He was echoed by another 45-year-old delivery rider who said the fastest deliveries still needed about five minutes and that the decision of the management to ban them from parking inside means they risk being fined for parking outside.

The Land Transport Authority website stated that all bicycle, e-bikes, personal mobility aid and personal mobility devices should be parked at designated parking places, such as bicycle racks and yellow boxes.

E-bikes are not allowed on footpaths.

A resident of Eight Riversuites, Lin (transliteration), told Shin Min that he empathised with the delivery riders and did not think it would be a problem if they had to park in the condo for a few minutes.

Shin Min further reported that the management staff declined to answer their queries and did not respond to their email by press time.
