A 26-year-old Malaysian woman intends to plead guilty to a charge of dangerous driving for speeding with the car involved in the Tanjong Pagar crash that killed five people in February 2021.

Drove the car before the crash

According to the charge sheet, Phoo Yi Lin had driven the white BMW M4 coupe at 109km/h, along Tanjong Pagar Road at about 5:35am on Feb. 13, 2021.

The speed limit on the road was 50km/h.

She was one of three people who took turns driving the car before Jonathan Long Junwei took over as the last driver, according to Traffic Police investigator Firdaus Suleiman at a coroner's inquiry into the accident in June 2022.

Long was driving the car at an estimated 148 km/h with four passengers when the vehicle crashed into a shophouse.

The car burst into flames, and all five men died afterwards due to severe burns and other injuries.

Their deaths were ruled a misadventure.

Phoo witnessed the accident with Raybe Oh — Long's then-girlfriend — and Park Se Jin, the owner of an eatery along Tanjong Pagar Road which Long and his friends had visited earlier.

Park was also identified as one of the other three car drivers.

Request to leave Singapore denied

Phoo is on bail and scheduled to return to court on Apr. 3 to plead guilty.

According to court records, she had also applied to leave Singapore, but her request was denied.

The charge of dangerous driving carries a jail term of up to 12 months, a fine of up to S$5,000, or both.
