Progress Singapore Party's (PSP) announced that it has elected a new central executive committee (CEC) during its party conference on Mar. 26.

Notably, Francis Yuen has relinquished his role as the party's Secretary-General.

Three members stepped down

Three current CEC members did not contest for a place in the committee and have stepped down.

Yuen is one of them, and the other two are Wang Swee Chuang and Jess Chua.

Wang was the vice-chairman while Chua was the head of the youth wing.

12 members were elected for the new CEC, and they are:

• Tan Cheng Bock;
• A'bas Bin Kasmani;
• Ang Yong Guan;
• Harish Pillay;
• Hazel Poa Koon Koon;
• Jeffrey Khoo Poh Tiong;
• Leong Mun Wai;
• Nadarajah Loganathan;
• Peggie Chua;
• Phang Yew Huat;
• Tan Chika; and
• Wendy Low Wei Ling.

They will be serving for two years till March 2025.

PSP will announce the new CEC appointments on Mar. 29, 2023.

Yuen will remain as a member

Yuen, who is a former Air Force colonel, first took over Leong Mun Wai in 2020 and became PSP's assistant secretary-general.

He went on to become the party's Secretary General when he took over Tan Cheng Bock in 2021.

The 73-year-old stepped down from this role on Mar. 26, 2023.

PSP explained that Yuen has been appointed as the executive chairman of an overseas publicly listed company, adding that his new commitments will make it difficult for him to lead the party.

However, he will remain a PSP member.

Yuen told Mothership:

"My role and involvement in overseas businesses would mean I will be away frequently on extended durations. It is important that a new [Secretary-General] takes over to spend full time on PSP as this CEC term is crucial in leading the party to the next election.

I am proud that the party has made major strides in just a few short years and despite operating under very constrained environment during the pandemic. We have grown from strength to strength.

The new CEC will be able to bring PSP to the next level of being a party of choice."
