The shops on levels two and three will resume business as usual.

The closure and sprucing up of hawker centres is to ensure that they are kept clean.

Currently, five other hawker centres are closed due to such works -- Sembawang Hills Food Centre, Block 163 Bukit Merah Central, Block 160/ 162 Ang Mo Kio Ave 4, Block 44 Holland Drive, and Block 117 Aljunied Ave 2.

Cleanliness issues

According to 8World, diners and hawkers interviewed said the food centre could use a little work as cleanliness was an issue.

The presence of birds, droppings, and dirty tables and chairs have plagued the food centre.

The dim lighting was also singled out.

One concern raised by a hawker was income taking a hit during the three-month closure period.

One diner said she was worried prices might rise as a result of the works.

Previously, it was reported that a rat was seen scampering around the hawker centre while diners consumed their meals.
