If you're looking to tighten your pursestrings, you can consider patronising 1 Dollar Nasi Lemak.

Nasi lemak budget at S$1

As its name suggests, the home-based business is selling "nasi lemak budget" at S$1.

Based in Woodlands, the business is Muslim-owned and only takes orders for Saturdays and Sundays.

The owners have day jobs from Mondays to Fridays and sell nasi lemak on the weekends as their side hustle.

Each S$1 portion comes with the nasi lemak prerequisites – a healthy serving of coconut rice, a sliver of fried omelette, fried ikan bilis (anchovies), and peanuts, and a dollop of sambal – all bundled in brown hawker paper.

According to the business, the sambal is slightly spicy and takes them five hours to prepare.

Those who are not as tolerant to spice need not fret as the sambal is kept separate from the rest of the nasi lemak with a piece of banana leaf.

Other nasi lemak offerings

Customers can also opt for the nasi lemak ayam (chicken) and nasi lemak popcorn chicken, which goes for S$2 and S$2.50 for each paper-wrapped serving respectively.

The former comes with an oven-baked marinated drumette while the latter comes with fried popcorn-sized chicken pieces.

Based on your preference, the business can also pack your orders into a plastic container, and each individual serving comes with a plastic spoon, for an additional S$0.30.

How to order

Customers must reserve a spot on order slots, which are open every weekend, by dropping the business a text on WhatsApp at 8836 6283

They can pick up their orders directly from 1 Dollar Nasi Lemak, which will disclose its exact location in Woodlands upon each successful order, or pay S$10 for island-wide delivery from 8:30am to 11:30pm.

Do note that there is a minimum order of 10 packets to qualify for delivery.
