House Officers and first year Medical Officers (MOs) can expect a 7 per cent and 13 per cent increase in their respective starting salaries.

Starting salaries to increase from Jan. 1, 2023

In Parliament on Feb 23, 2023, Workers' Party (WP) Aljunied Member of Parliament (MP) Leon Perera asked for a specific breakdown of the pay rise in starting salaries for junior doctors in the public healthcare system.

He asked about the percentage increase in take home pay applied to medical officers, house officers, and junior residents respectively, and wanted to find out the reasons for the varying increments for junior doctors of differing levels.

In response to Perera, Health Minister Ong Ye Kung said in a written answer that House Officers and first year MOs can expect a 7 per cent and 13 per cent increase in their respective starting salaries from Jan. 1, 2023.

Meanwhile, eligible in-service MOs or Residents up to post-graduate year (PGY) 6, and Dental Officers up to PGY 4 can expect a salary adjustment based on their years in service and bond period.

Ong explained that the amount of adjustment made depends on the market movement of salaries across different levels of seniority, adding that the Ministry of Health will continue to review the salaries of doctors in the public healthcare system so that they remain competitive.
