1 more imported case of monkeypox confirmed in S'pore

The Ministry of Health (MOH) has confirmed another imported case of monkeypox in Singapore on Jul. 7.

This brings Singapore's total number of confirmed cases to be three -- two imported, and one local.

None of the three cases are reported to be linked.

The first case was confirmed on Jun. 21 and was imported by a 42-year-old British flight attendant.

The second, a local case, involves a 45-year-old Malaysian man who tested positive on Jul. 6.

The third case

MOH shared that a 36-year-old male Indian national who resides in Singapore and had recently returned to Singapore from the U.S..

He first developed anal discomfort on Jun. 28. In the following days, he progressively exhibited other symptoms typical of monkeypox.

The patient sought medical care on Jul. 6 and was conveyed to the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID) on the same day.

Contact tracing is ongoing.

Common monkeypox symptoms

According to MOH, these symptoms are commonly experienced at the beginning of the disease:

  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Muscle ache
  • Backache
  • Swollen lymph nodes
  • Chills
  • General feeling of exhaustion

A rash, which typically starts from the face, often develops as the disease progresses.
