Rendang-inspired fast food items are appearing in Singapore, which can only mean one thing.

Yes, Aug. 9 National Day is coming and Subway has launched two new menu items inspired by local flavours — the pandan cookie and rendang sub.

Pandan cookie and rendang sub

Made with ingredients such as coconut flakes, dessiccated coconut, pandan flavouring, vanilla and almond, the pandan cookie starts from S$1.40.

Inspired by the popular Malay dish, the rendang sub includes ingredients such as chilli, onion, turmeric, ginger, garlic, desiccated coconut, spices, tamarind, and lemongrass.

It comes with a choice of chicken (starts at S$7.30 for a six-inch sub) or beef (starts at S$7.90 for a six-inch sub).

The new menu items will be available from July 21 to Sep. 28, 2021, at all Subway restaurants in Singapore and on delivery platforms such as GrabFood, foodpanda, and Deliveroo.

While customers are free to select their preferred vegetables, you may consider Subway's recommended pairing of the rendang with old English cheddar cheese, mixed greens, tomatoes, cucumber, mixed pepper and onions.

Donate 10,000 subs to frontliners

Subway will match the first 10,000 of these subs sold and donate them to staff and volunteers at vaccination centres, testing centres and the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID) in its first large-scale community impact initiative.
