Almost 30 years after Internet Explorer 1 was pushed out on the market, Microsoft is finally killing it off.

In a blogpost on May 19 aptly titled "The future of Internet Explorer on Windows 10 is in Microsoft Edge", announced the shift.

In their post, they called Microsoft Edge, the IE successor, a "more secure and more modern browsing experience".

Edge, which has IE built in, allows the access to "legacy Internet Explorer-based websites and applications".

This move has been a long time coming, ever since Edge replaced IE as the default browser for Windows 10 customers back in 2015.

According to Microsoft, the "Internet Explorer 11 desktop application will be retired and go out of support on June 15, 2022, for certain versions of Windows 10".
