When asked by reporters on Tuesday, Oct. 6 (U.S time) if he would feel safe debating U.S. President Donald Trump, Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden said that they should not have a debate if Trump is still sick, reported The New York Times.
But Biden said his decision will be guided by the Cleveland Clinic, which is overseeing health conditions for all presidential and vice presidential debates this year.
“I think we were gonna have to follow very strict guidelines,” he said, according to Bloomberg.
“Too many people have been infected. It’s a very serious problem, so I will be guided by the guidelines of the Cleveland Clinic and what the docs say is the right thing to do," Biden added.
“I’m looking forward to being able to debate him but I just hope all the protocols are followed that are necessary at the time."
Trump 'looking forward' to next debate
The next debate is scheduled to take place on Oct. 15 in Miami, Florida.
Trump tweeted on Tuesday night: "I am looking forward to the debate on the evening of Thursday, October 15th in Miami. It will be great!"

Just 24 hours prior to the tweet, Trump was still in the hospital getting treated for Covid-19.
Staff in the White House now wear full personal protective equipment, reported Politico.
According to guidelines by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, patients can remain infectious between 10 to 20 days after onset of symptoms.
Trump announced that he was diagnosed with Covid-19 on Oct. 1.
During the first presidential debate last week, Trump had mocked Biden for wearing a face mask during the debate.
Plexiglass barriers at the coming vice presidential debate
Vice president Mike Pence and Democratic vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris is set to debate on Oct. 7 (U.S. time).
After initial objections, Pence's team have agreed to a plexiglass barricade on his side of the stage.
According to The Washington Post, Pence's Chief of Staff said: "If she wants it, she’s more than welcome to surround herself with plexiglass if that makes her feel more comfortable.”
