Pritam Singh's National Day Message 2020: Reflect on what it means to be S'porean

Singh: S'poreans' unity and commitment to each other is 'ultimately not rooted in the things money can buy'.

Workers' Party (WP) chief Pritam Singh found the simplicity and scaled-down nature of this year’s National Day Parade (NDP) to be "significant and meaningful in its own way".

This year's NDP is a scaled-down version of the usual NDP, with only about 150 spectators attending the NDP2020 evening show at the The Star Performing Arts Centre at Star Vista.

Singh, who is the official leader of the Opposition (LO), said that every Singaporean can play their part to "reflect on what it means to be Singaporean", and focus on the values of respect and kindness to "our family, neighbours and friends", especially those of a different race or religion.

Singh: "WP chooses to see NDP 2020 as an opportunity to reflect on the better people we can all become"

Singh said that Singaporeans must always seek strength and comfort from fellow Singaporeans, noting that our unity and commitment to each other is "ultimately not rooted in the things money can buy".

With the values of respect and kindness to all, Singh urges Singaporeans to work together to build bridges of compromise, tolerance and understanding for the betterment of future generations.

Singh also took a photo with fellow Aljunied GRC MPs Sylvia Lim and Muhamad Faisal Manap at the National Gallery Singapore, and wished everyone a happy National Day.

Singh was at the Padang this morning and thanked the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and the Home team for putting up a first class NDP.
Singh concluded:

"We all make choices in life. The WP chooses to see NDP 2020 as an opportunity to reflect on the better people we can all become.

In the midst of economic gloom and hardship, let us come together to forge a new unity, to strengthen our bonds as a family, to become a better people and to build a better Singapore."
