Lion City Sailors, formerly known as Home United Football Club, is the new name for the club given a makeover after it was bought by the parent company of Shopee.

The club hasn't been off to the best of starts in the Singapore Premier League, recording a loss and a draw.

But if you're a secret Lionel Messi just waiting for the opportunity to unleash your dazzling talents in the world of football, then you can apply for a job.

Job advertisement

A job advertisement by Lion City Sailors has been put up on the MyCareersFuture website, asking for a football player who can play as a striker.

You can see it at this link.

Mothership understands that the advertisement is genuine, so here's what Lion City is looking for in their new employee:

  • Minimum of five years as a full-time professional football player as a striker.
  • Proven goalscoring record in professional-level domestic and continental competitions sanctioned by FIFA, UEFA and/or AFC.

The ad also calls for other qualities, such as being a role model for younger players, having a high level of fitness and professionalism.

Employment Pass rules

According to the Ministry of Manpower's Employment Pass (EP) rules, football players are not exempt, as you can see here:

Football players need to submit supporting documents from Sport Singapore.

And another requirement of EP rules is that before applying for an EP, the job vacancy should be advertised on the MyCareersFuture website first.

This is in line with Tripartite Guidelines on Fair Employment Practices and the Fair Consideration Framework.

The club recently parted ways with their star striker Andy Pengelly, who left Singapore to return to his family in Australia due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

So, they're looking for a replacement.

A look at the current roster of local strikers in Singapore have pulled up at least one name, Khairul Amri.

He came off the bench and scored the winner and his first goal of the season during the Tampines Rovers' first game of the 2017 AFC Cup campaign.

But Khairul is currently playing in Malaysia.
