Kim Lim, Singaporean billionaire Peter Lim's daughter, is divorced.

The end of her marriage was originally reported by Icon magazine on Aug. 4 and translated into English in Straits Times Life on Aug. 12.

The interview with the 29-year-old was pegged with an interview with Cherie Lim, Peter Lim's current wife.

Cherie, 50, is a former model and actress.

Kim is Peter Lim's daughter from his first marriage.

The stepmother-stepdaughter interviews appear in the August issue of the Chinese language Icon magazine, packaged as a glimpse into the lives of the ultra rich and how they are coping during this pandemic, as well as how the duo have been brought closer together in recent years.

Separated for a while

Icon revealed that Kim divorced her husband Kho Bin Kai, known publicly as BK Kho, this year after more than three years of marriage.

The two got married in a ceremony attended by family in 2016.

They had a son in 2017.

However, the couple's relationship has been on and off in the past year.

Their love had turned into a "habit" without spark, Icon wrote.

Kim also revealed that her former husband has always been a quiet man, and he remained silent when she brought up divorce.

The separation was not rushed.

She said: "Instead of forcing ourselves to survive in an unhappy marriage, it's better to give each other freedom."

"We had already separated about a year ago, so this is not a rash decision. Though we cannot be husband and wife, he is still the father of my son and a very good one at that."

They separated at the end of 2019.

They called it quits officially in 2020.

Kim has been living with her father and her stepmother Cherie.

Despite the separation, Kim and Kho make it a point to attend the Chinese New Year charity events for Cherie's charity Operation Redshirt, as well as their son's birthday together.

Not much known about former husband

Not much is known about Kho, except that he stays out of the public eye and is very careful to the extent he doesn't have much of an online presence.

He keeps a low profile and not much is known about him -- a contrast to the public-facing Kim.

When footballing demigod Cristiano Ronaldo visited Kim when she gave birth, people mistook him for the father.

Publicity about Kho only came when he was charged in court with assisting in remote gambling.

Kho, who turns 30 at the end of August 2020, was reported to be out on S$25,000 bail last year and the case is pending.

Parents' divorce not a factor

Icon also wrote that Kim denied that her parents' lengthy and bitter divorce caused her to not trust the institution of marriage.

Kim said she had given her many chances to salvage her relationship with her former husband.

But in the end, she felt they were dragging each other down.

Signs were there

The signs were there all along though.

In a previous 2018 interview with Icon, Kim said she and her husband lead different lives, but they could still reconcile their differences.

She revealed then: He is quiet while she is loud, he dresses simply while she loves fashion, he eats cooked food while she loves sashimi, and he doesn't like social media while she is an influencer.

Kim also said then that these were only differences and not conflicts, and that they learned to live together harmoniously.

Post-divorce

These days, Kim is busy with her aesthetics businesses.

She was involved in the process of opening Papilla Haircare at Ngee Ann City and Illumia Therapeutics in Wheelock Place in 2019.

Being a mother herself brought structure into Kim's life, Cherie told Icon.

Insight into Kim's relationship with her stepmother was also highlighted during the interviews.

Icon wrote that Cherie and Kim took a while to get close, a development that Cherie revealed.

Cherie had watched Kim grow up, but the two were apparently not always on good terms and it took an adjustment period.

"I can understand her feelings," Cherie told Icon.

"She was so young then, and suddenly there was someone new in her family and that was not easy for her to accept."
