The Ministry of Health (MOH) has announced that there are 226 new cases of Covid-19 on August 3 as of 12pm.

This brings the total of cases to 53,051.

Here are more details from the evening news release.

Nine imported cases

Among the new cases, nine were imported cases who had been placed on Stay Home Notice upon arrival in Singapore.

They are mostly asymptomatic during onset of symptoms.

Here's the break down of the details:

One community case is a 26 year-old prison inmate

MOH informed that there is one case in the community, involving a prison inmate who is on Short-Term Visit Pass.

The 26-year-old Sri Lanka national had arrived in Singapore before the implementation of border measures.

He had earlier served a sentence in prison before the current admission to prison.

He is an unlinked case and was asymptomatic when being tested.

He had been segregated from the general inmate population since his admission to Changi Prison Complex on July 30, and was tested as part of the Singapore Prison Service’s (SPS) proactive screening of newly admitted inmates.

He had tested negative for Covid-19 for his entry and exit swabs on July 2 and July 22 respectively. He was subsequently tested again for Covid-19 (even though he is asymptomatic), and his test came back positive.

Overall, the number of new cases and unlinked cases in the community have both decreased.

The number of new cases has decreased from an average of five cases per day in the week before to an average of two per day in the past week.

The number of unlinked cases has dropped from an average of three cases per day in the week before to one per day in the past week.

No new locations visited by Covid-19 patients

There are no new locations identified as places visited by Covid-19 patients when they are infectious.

Previously, those who had been identified as close contacts of confirmed cases would already have been notified by MOH.

As a precautionary measure, persons who had been at these locations during the specified timings should monitor their health closely for 14 days from their date of visit.

They should see a doctor promptly if they develop symptoms of acute respiratory infection (such as cough, sore throat and runny nose), as well as fever and loss of taste or smell, and inform the doctor of their exposure history.

There is no need to avoid places where confirmed cases of Covid-19 have been. The National Environment Agency will engage the management of affected premises to provide guidance on cleaning and disinfection.

253 more discharged cases and two clusters closed

253 more cases have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities.

In all, 47,179 have fully recovered from the infection and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities, MOH reported.

There are currently 115 confirmed cases who are still in hospital. Of these, most are stable or improving, and one is in critical condition in the intensive care unit (ICU).

This is an increase from August 2, which reported zero patients in the ICU.

5,730 are isolated and cared for at community facilities.

Two clusters have been closed after not having new cases for the past two incubation periods (28 days). They are clusters at Keppel Shipyard and Paya Lebar Quarter Tower 2.
