Malaysian comedian Nigel Ng, also known as Uncle Roger, has met up with BBC Food host Hersha Patel, whose egg fried rice recipe he mocked in a reaction response video.

“Big development: uncle roger is now making a collab with egg fried rice lady @hershapatel1,” Ng said in his retweet of Patel’s tweet on July 25.

Patel said in her tweet: “To all my new friends/haters @MrNigelNg and I have just had a lovely afternoon discussing my ‘crimes’ against rice... watch this space.. collab coming soon, give me a follow! #riceislife #uncleroger".

What video in tweet was about

The meet-up appeared to be an extension of goodwill following the comedian's brutal takedown of Patel.

The Uncle Roger reaction video circulated the globe.

Perhaps in response to the widespread denunciation Patel subsequently suffered, Ng said in the Twitter video that he had dinner with Patel and asked those online to stop bullying the award-winning presenter and filmmaker.

“Hersha’s really good, she’s a great presenter, really funny, but don’t post anything mean on Instagram alright. Otherwise, Uncle Roger will come for you,” he said.

Patel interjected: “Because whilst this guy’s blown up, like nobody’s business, I’ve been trolled!”

She then explained herself: “Okay, I’ll just make a quick point. I was doing a job for the BBC, presenting their recipes. I know how to cook rice! And that’s all I’m saying about that.”

The duo then said another cooking video will be out in the future, where the two will collaborate for another rice-cooking session.

Patel promised this time to show how she actually cooked rice.

How the two ended up meeting

A funny video by Ng's Uncle Roger persona had him react in an exasperated manner to how the BBC host cooked rice.

He pointed out the video, which was not even new and had been around since April 2019, and that led to Patel's evisceration online as Asians all over the world died a little inside.

Patel’s supposed blunders included not washing the rice before cooking, stopping the cooking process even as the rice was wet and rinsing the rice under the water after it was supposedly done.
