Asians across the planet died a little inside after a BBC Food video that teaches people how to cook fried rice ended up butchering it instead.

The video, funnily enough, is not even new as it first appeared in April 2019.

The host, Hersha Patel, demonstrated her cooking method of putting water and unwashed rice into a pan then boiling it -- a major transgression.

Patel then drained the pot using a strainer before the rice can absorb the water and cook fully -- the second major transgression

Next, she rinsed the semi-cooked rice with tap water -- the third major transgression.

According to her profile on BBC Food, Patel is an “award-winning presenter and filmmaker who works across entertainment, comedy, food, travel and adventure sports”.

She also hosts her own YouTube channel.

For the uninitiated, the proper way to cook rice is to rinse it at least once or twice with water first before cooking.

Comedy reaction

The latest hullabaloo regarding the video was the result of UK-based Malaysian stand-up comedian Nigel Ng posting a reaction video to Patel’s cooking.

Ng's comedic Uncle Roger persona reacted with shock and disgust at the butchering of rice-cooking.

“First step all wrong already,” Ng exhorted in an accent.

“I am not confident this video is gonna be good.”

He continued: “Wait, so you don’t wash the rice? How you don’t wash the rice just cook the rice?"

"Now, the rice stinky like you! Where you learn how to make rice, some white people cooking school or something?”
