A Secondary 1 student from Jurong West Secondary School is one of the 191 new Covid-19 cases announced on July 10, the Ministry of Education (MOE) said.

The student is linked to a previously confirmed case, who is also a Secondary 1 student from the same school.

The previous case was announced by the Ministry of Health (MOH) on July 7.

As the latest case was a close contact of the previous case, she has been placed on Home Quarantine Order (HQO) by MOH since July 6.

She was also swabbed under MOH's expanded testing regime, and tested positive.

She was last in school on July 3. According to MOE, she was well, and remains without symptoms.

All remaining close contacts of the previously confirmed case, which is about 70 students and staff, have tested negative for the virus.

School cleaned and disinfected several times

The school has been cleaned and disinfected several times since the last weekend.

Further disinfection and cleaning of premises is also taking place on July 11, MOH added.

All Secondary 1 students were placed on Home-Based Learning (HBL) on July 8 and 9, pending the outcome of MOH's investigations.

As an added precaution, HBL will be extended to July 18 for the cohort.

From this new case, MOH will be issuing HQOs to another six students and four staff.

All other levels will resume classes in school on Monday (July 13).
