Update: Imran Rahim has released a statement.

Lawyer Imran Rahim has taken a leave of absence from the law firm he is working at.

Law firm Tan Kok Quan Partnership (TKQP) said on July 23 that it is investigating allegations of sexual misconduct against Imran.

The firm said Imran, 32, had agreed to take a leave of absence as investigations are carried out.

Allegations of improper conduct by Imran were made by Reform Party member Charles Yeo on July 21.

Yeo put up videos and written posts on Instagram accusing Imran of improper conduct, and highlighting that he is an active volunteer in the community who had been praised by Cabinet ministers before in speeches.

Yeo's video that runs for 35 minutes is still up online.

In a response to Today, TKQP said: “The firm takes all allegations impacting an employee’s moral, social and professional standing as an individual, as a member of the firm and in the larger scheme of things, as a member of the legal profession very seriously.”

“It is looking into the matter and making its own enquiries into these allegations. In this regard, the firm implements a zero-tolerance policy towards any matter concerning sexual impropriety.”

Mothership.sg has reached out to the law firm separately with queries, and is reaching out to Imran for comments.

Some of the allegations appear to have been about incidents that happened some time ago and involved debaters who are members of the opposite sex.

The law firm's management is looking into the allegations, TKQP said, and employees were informed about the matter on July 22.

“While the firm already has in place a reporting policy/procedure for grievances such as sexual harassment and other improprieties, it has reminded all employees that they should not hesitate to reach out to management if they have concerns over this matter,” the spokesperson added.

Imran is a senior associate at the law firm dealing with commercial litigation and dispute resolution.

He graduated with a law degree from the National University of Singapore in 2013.

In 2011, Imran was the champion and best speaker at the United Asian Debating Championships and a quarterfinalist at the World Universities Debating Championship.

Imran and influencer Andrea Chong got married in March in what was a high-profile coupling in Singapore.
