All 18 in Sengkang social gathering case charged for non-compliance with safe distancing measures

A group of 18 persons are being charged for non-compliance with safe distancing measures (SDM) during the Circuit Breaker, under the Covid-19 (Temporary Measures) (Control Order) Regulations 2020.

13 members of the group were charged in court on July 22 and July 23, while the final five members were charged on Friday (July 24).

The five were Chee Min Hui, Nic Man Lim Wei Fong, Tan Zhi Hong Jasper, Peh Si Qin and Chua Jie Kun.

All five indicated their intention to plead guilty.

Previously, eight individuals were charged on July 22, and indicated their intention to plead guilty.

Five more members of the group were charged on July 23, including the hosts Ong Shi Hong Cassie and Leong Chee Mun.

Four of the accused, including Ong, indicated their intention to plead guilty.

The remaining accused is Leong, who is the sole owner of the flat where the gathering took place.

He is the only member of the group who did not indicate that he wished to plead guilty.

According to The Straits Times, Leong's case has been adjourned to August 13.

The gathering happened during CB

On May 8, 2020, a couple residing at Compassvale Crescent in Sengkang invited eight men and eight women to their place of residence for a social gathering.

The 16 people visited the unit between 9:30pm on May 8, 2020, and 1am on May 9, 2020.

All 16 of them will be charged for violating the restrictions on leaving their place of residence without a valid reason, and for violating the prohibition on social gatherings.

In addition, the Compassvale Crescent couple will be charged for violating the restrictions on permitting other individuals to enter their ordinary place of residence without a valid reason, and for violating the prohibition on social gatherings.

The group comprised of 17 Singaporeans and one Singapore Permanent Resident, and are aged between 18 and 37 years old.
