Singaporean Mandopop star Stefanie Sun debuted her first self-titled album "Yan Zi" on June 9, 2000.

That said, some of the songs from Sun's very first album are still popular choices at karaoke sessions and singing competitions 20 years on, such as "Turbo" and "Cloudy Day".

Not to mention other classics like "I miss him too", "Realise" and "What I Miss".

20th year anniversary for Sun

On June 9, 2020, Sun posted on Facebook asking fans what she should do.

In response, many fans requested for an online concert, a new album and merchandise.

She then followed with another post that says "Companionship is bliss".

More than just a singer

Sun won the Best New Comer award with her debut album in 2000.

That year, Sun also had a harrowing experience at one of her autograph session in Taiwan when a man carrying a fake gun dashed onto the stage.

She took home the Best Mandopop Female Artist for Golden Melody Awards in 2005.

Sun has also experimented with various genres of music over the years.

Her latest album was released in 2017, also her 13th album titled "A Dancing Van Gogh".

What makes Sun one of the most iconic Mandopop female singer in recent history and a Singapore icon is more than just her unique vocal.

Her down-to-earth and humble personality has gained her fans and friends in the industry such as Chinese veteran singer Han Hong.

She was described as "being plain but not ordinary" back in 2005.

Now a mother of two, the 41-year-old Sun has shifted her focus more towards family in recent years.

While Sun does post some updates on Instagram, fans still long for her comeback.

Planned to make a comeback in 2020

That's what prompted Sun to make an appearance on Chinese reality show/singing competition "The Coming One 3" in late-2019.

Sun shared in an interview that she is aware that fans miss her a lot.

Since 2020 marks her 20th year anniversary, she hopes she can journey through this milestone with them which is why she agreed to join "The Coming One 3", she said.

She also dropped a surprise remake with Taiwanese band Mayday on one of the band's classics "Tenderness" at the start of 2020.

Sun also wrote a poignant post to reflect on the past two decades of her music career and announce an upcoming concert in 2020 titled "Super Solstice".
