Seven men who have been accused of colluding to rape four of their wives have been offered bail ranging from S$100,000 to S$200,000, subjected to multiple conditions.
Rapes were mostly carried out at the houses of the victims
The crimes were spread over eight years, from 2010 to 2018, with most of the alleged rapes carried out at the victim's houses.
It was suspected that the husbands had drugged their wives so that the rapes could take place.
None of them can be named as a result of a gag order that has been imposed to protect the victims' identities.
The seven men are aged 34, 38, 43, 45 and 51 years, with two men aged 41.
They are Singaporeans who work in different industries.
In addition, all of the men reportedly knew one another, as well as the four wives.
What are the conditions for bail?
All of the seven men who have been offered bail are subjected to the following conditions:
- A ban on contacting the victims of the case, the prosecution's witnesses, and their fellow co-accused conspirators,
- A ban on the co-accused and victims being their bailors,
- The impounding of their passports,
- A curfew from 10pm to 7am, and
- Being subjected to electronic tagging.
As for each of the accused, one man has had his bail set at S$200,000, four men at S$150,000 each, and two men at S$100,000 each.
With regard to the suspect who has had his bail set at S$200,000, he is also banned from contacting his wife, and must live separately from her.
The same conditions also apply to three of the men who have had their bail set at S$150,000.
Meanwhile, one of the men who had his bail set at S$100,000 was also confirmed to be married.
However, given that his wife was not one of the victims, no similar restrictions have been put in place for him at his place of residence.
All seven suspects will return to court on July 28.
