Singapore has reported 32,876 Covid-19 cases as of May 27, 12pm.

Four more community cases have been reported in the latest update.

While the lingering single-digit new cases continue to be a source of worry, Singapore has made significant progress in the fight against Covid-19 over the past two weeks.

Here are some encouraging signs that the hard work of the medical workers have paid off.

52% of total cases discharged so far

The number of patients who have recovered over the past 14 days has increased tremendously.

The number of patients who have completed isolation has increased by four times.

Around 1,000 patients are being discharged from hospitals every day in the past 14 days.

For the past 15 consecutive days, the number of discharged cases has exceeded the number of new cases.

With another 832 cases discharged on May 27, the total number of discharged cases stands at 17,276 now.

This is about 52 per cent of the total number of Covid-19 cases in Singapore since the start of outbreak.

Patients in hospitals halved

The number of patients warded in hospitals has also fallen from 1,052 on May 14 to 518 on May 27.

Another good news is the drop in the number of patients warded in the intensive care units, which has gone down from 20 to 7.

During the same period, there was also a slight decline in the number of patients at the community care facilities.

Notably, one Bangladeshi worker, Raju Sarker, who had been in the intensive care unit for over two months, is also recovering well now.

Daily cases likely to fall below 100 soon

According to Professor Teo Yik Ying from the National University of Singapore's Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, the number of daily confirmed cases in dormitories is likely to fall below 100 by end of June.

This is likely to happen if the reproductive number of the virus is being reduced to 0.5 and that means halving the number of new cases in the dormitories every five days, The Straits Times reported.

According to the situation report, there is a gradual decline in the number of cases arising from the dormitories.

However, MOH has also clarified that the lower numbers over the weekend (338 and 381) are due to fewer tests being conducted.

That said, the number of new clusters linked to dormitories has reduced significantly with no new clusters reported for three consecutive days recently and one new cluster identified today.

On top of that, the number of quarantine orders issued and the number of active persons under quarantine have also shown a decreasing trend in the past two weeks, which might be indicative of an improving Covid-19 situation.

These encouraging numbers also indicate that Singapore is ready to end the 56-day circuit breaker period gradually and safely.
