A family of otters has been spotted out and about amid Covid-19 outbreak, while people are cooped up at home.

Earlier in March, they took a dip in a condominium pool at Newton, followed by an appearance at Tan Tock Seng Hospital in the middle of the month.

More recently, six of them also paid a surprise visit to a petrol station along Bukit Timah Road.

In the latest video clip circulating online, the same family, also known as the Zouk Family, was caught chilling outside Mustafa Centre.

One of the adults ventured onto the empty road while the others idled by the roadside.

If you are wondering, the family did not make an aimless trip to Mustafa Centre.

They were actually doing some recce for a permanent home.

Zouk family looking for forever home

More often that not spotted in a romp of six, the family actually consists of seven otters in total — the parents, three older siblings and two surviving pups (of six), which were born in the Singapore Botanic Gardens last October.

The family got their name as the six original otters lived under Jiak Kim bridge where Zouk nightclub used to be.

According to OtterWatch, this family has been looking for a larger home ground for the last four months.

As the family expands, they will need a larger territory, but the waters in Central Singapore have been taken by other otter families, such as the prominent Marina Bay and Bishan families.

This explains why the Zouk family has been visiting several locations such as Kampung Java, Bukit Timah Road, the condominium in Newton (off Rochor Canal), Tan Tock Seng Hospital and Little India.

This is a tough time for the family as much as it is for us humans.
