On April 17, McDonald's Singapore announced that they will stop walk-in takeaways at all outlets from Apr. 18 till May 4, 11:59pm.

Only drive-thru, online orders and deliveries will be allowed.

Staff with disrupted roles will still be paid

In a press release by McDonald's Singapore, the fast food restaurant said that the staff strength will be adjusted accordingly in each restaurant to support delivery orders via McDelivery and GrabFood and drive-thru orders in the kitchens.

"Restaurant employees will be meaningfully deployed to ensure delivery riders wait for food pick-ups in a safe environment within the restaurant premises and comply strictly with social distancing measures."

They will also continue to pay the salaries of the employees and seniors whose roles would be disrupted in the next few weeks.

This move was to show "appreciation for their support to fight the virus together", they said.

"We are extremely grateful to all our McDonald’s frontliners for their hard work and continued support of our customers during these challenging times. As we’ve said before, our priority since the start of the pandemic has always been about keeping our employees, our customers and our restaurants safe, and we are determined to stay united with the rest of Singapore to flatten the curve."

Precautionary measures for staff

McDonald's employees, including its delivery riders, have been subject to the reinforcement of personal hygiene, including washing of hands, twice-daily temperature-taking and wearing of masks.

The restaurant has also set up a 24/7 Support Hotline for their staff to provide easy access to any employee who might have concerns or just need a listening ear during this challenging time.
