Hari McCoy has lived in Singapore for 10 years.

Will sign for Rio Ave FC when he turns 18

The former Tampines Rovers youth player will soon embark on a professional football career in Europe, according to The New Paper.

Once he turns 18 in September this year, McCoy will sign for Portugal's Rio Ave Football Club.

He has been training with the club's under-19 team since July 2019 as a midfielder.

However, he had returned to Singapore in March 2020 due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

Rio Ave FC was fifth in the league

Before the league was suspended due to Covid-19 control measures, Rio Ave was in the fifth position in Primeira Liga.

Rio Ave's youth system has produced quality players such as former Real Madrid defender Fabio Coentrao and Manchester City's goalkeeper Ederson Santana de Moraes.

The club is led by manager and former footballer Carlos Carvalhal.

He has also managed other teams like Sporting Lisbon, Besiktas, and Swansea City.

McCoy's background

McCoy is a British national and was born in England.

However, he has several links to Singapore.

Both of his parents were born here and his paternal grandfather was a British navy officer stationed here.

His family decided to return to Singapore from England in 2010, where McCoy began his football journey.

When he was nine years old, McCoy joined the JSSL Football Academy in Singapore.

This is the same academy that Fulham youngster Ben Davis trained in.

When he was 15, McCoy then became one of the youngest players of Tampines Rovers’ under-19 team.

Here's a compilation of his best moments.

Mad skills.
