A 39 year-old male Bangladesh national became Singapore's 42nd Covid-19 case on Feb. 9.

Taken off the ventilator

He had reported onset of symptoms on Feb. 1.

But since Feb. 7, he had been admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU).

However, after over two months, he was finally moved to the general ward in NCID, according to a Facebook post by Migrant Workers' Centre (MWC).

MWC added that he was also taken off the ventilator and can now breathe on his own.

However, he will require speech therapy as part of his recovery process.

Is the sole breadwinner and wife was pregnant

In a Feb. 24 Facebook post, MWC had revealed that the man is the sole breadwinner of his family.

His wife was heavily pregnant when he was still critically ill.

She was initially under the impression that her husband was "having a normal flu".

She only found out about his Covid-19 infection through his cousin, who is also working in Singapore.

Received help

Patient 42's family received S$10,000 in donation courtesy of MWC, the worker's employer (Yi-Ke Innovations), and his dormitory operator (Mini Environment Service).

In addition, ItsRainingRaincoats, a community initiative for migrant workers in Singapore, had also appealed for baby items for his family.

On Mar. 31, his wife gave birth to a baby boy.

MWC said that his family has been notified of the good news today (Apr. 16).

"The MWC has tracked this case closely for almost 2 months now and in the process has grown close to both the worker’s family and his employer. We have spoken with the family and the employer regarding this very encouraging and happy development and can report that all concerned are overjoyed."
