Taiwan's celebrity dancer and actress Serena Liu passed away on Sunday night, March 22, at the age of 44, Apple Daily reported.

It was previously reported that Liu was waiting for a heart transplant.

Liu's condition worsened after her heart stopped during a heart valve repair surgery in early February.

She had suffered from a narrow aortic valve.

Jacky Wu addressed media after Liu's passing

While Liu's 48-year-old singer husband Shin Lung had yet to comment on her death, Taiwanese TV host Jacky Wu spoke to the media on his behalf on Monday afternoon, March 23.

Wu said Shin was too "heartbroken" to show up at the press conference.

Shin had previously said he is willing to exchange his life for Liu's, and asked everyone to pray for his wife's recovery.

Liu leaves behind a four-year-old daughter nicknamed Ni Ni with her husband.
